Description

Rajasthan is a state in northern India and it is also the largest state in India. The mere mention of the name Rajasthan brings in a lot of images in our mind such as vast arid deserts, camels, lakes, forts and palaces, people wearing colorful pagris (headgear) and much more. Rajasthan means “Land of Kings” and it lives up to its name.

Our 11 nights and 12 days Admirable Rajasthan Fort and Palaces Tour will take you across the largest state of India into one of the most culturally rich and diverse states India has to offer.

Jaipur is the capital city of Rajasthan. It is also known as the “Pink City” as almost all of the buildings and architecture adorn pink color on their walls.

Some of the famous places to visit in Jaipur are the Hawa Mahal and Jal Mahal.

Hawa Mahal is a beautiful palace which is made up of red and pink sandstone. Jal Mahal on the other hand is a palace in the middle of Man Sagar Lake. It is a brilliant example of Rajput Style of architecture. Jantar Mantar is a collection of nineteen astronomical instruments in the shape of architecture. It has the world’s largest sundial and is also a UNESCO world heritage site.

Bikaner is a city in the northwestern state of Rajasthan, which was formerly the princely state of Bikaner around 1488 CE. Bikaner is often not seen as a famous tourist place amongst famous places in Rajasthan, but Bikaner has its own charm and uniqueness about it. Karni Mata Temple which is known as the “Rat Temple” is one of the most unique temples of the world which is home to almost 20,000 rats. Legend has it that Goddess Durga turned the storyteller caste of Rajasthani males to rats in order to spite God of Death Yama. Junagarh Fort is another place to visit in Bikaner city, Junagarh literally means “Old Fort”. It is one of the few forts in Rajasthan which is not built on a hilltop and what makes it unique is that the whole city of Bikaner is built around it. The fort is so beautiful that many Bollywood movies and TV shows have been shot in it. The fort is inspired by Rajasthani, Gujarati, Mughal and British architecture which makes it one of a kind.

Jaisalmer is one of the largest cities in the Indian state of Rajasthan and it has been given the nickname of “The Golden City”. The city is built on a ridge which consists of sandstone which is yellow in colour. Almost all of the residents live in the Jaisalmer Fort, which is the only fort of modern times around the world in which people still reside. The fort overlooks the rest of the city. Visit forts such as Sonar Quila amongst many others and return back to the campsite in Thar Desert to witness a beautiful sunset along with bonfire and famous Rajasthani folk dance and music to end your day.

Jodhpur is the second largest city in the state of Rajasthan and officially the second metropolitan city of the state. It is a popular tourist destination which has many forts, temples and palaces. It is called “The Blue City” as the walls of the buildings and several other architectural places are painted blue to keep off the heat from the sun’s rays.

One of the city’s main landmarks is Mehrangarh Fort which is located at an elevation of 125mts over Jodhpur. It is made with a mix of brown and white sandstone which makes it really unique. You can try out ziplining which is one of the adventurous activities that can be done inside the fort. It offers you a chance to get a bird’s eye view of the gardens and the desert lake. The fort has intricate carvings which reminds of fresco styled era of Italian architecture.

Udaipur is known as the “Lake City” and there are many beautiful palaces which are set alongside Lake Pichola. Continuing the color theme, in Udaipur you will see white coloured architecture and buildings.

Chittor Fort or simply “Chittorgarh”, which is a UNESCO World heritage site. The fort was the capital of historic Mewar and is now located in Chittor. According to legends, the fort was constructed by Bhima, one of the Pandavas from the Mahabharata.

The next leg of the tour starts from a visit to the Bhangarh Fort. This is not a place for the faint of heart as this fort has many legends that associate paranormal and haunted activities and sightings. This fort was built in the 17th century and it is located alongside the borders of the Sariska Reserve in the Aravalli Range of hills in the Alwar district of Rajasthan. Entry into Bhangarh is prohibited between sunset and sunrise. It is ranked the most haunted fort in India. The Bhangarh fort was built by the Kachwaha ruler of Amber, Raja Bhagwant Singh, for his younger son Madho Singh in 1573 AD. Madho Singh’s brother was the celebrated Maan Singh, who was Akbar’s general. Madho Singh was succeeded by his son Chatr Singh.
