Sikkim is a state in northeast India, bordered by Bhutan, Tibet and Nepal. Part of the Himalayas, the area has a dramatic landscape that includes India’s highest mountain, 8,586m Kangchenjunga. Sikkim is also home to glaciers, alpine meadows and thousands of varieties of wildflowers.

This 5 nights and 6 days Sikkim package starts from Gangtok, which is the capital of the state of Sikkim. Visit “Nathula pass” which is a mountain pass, lying in the Eastern side of Sikkim surrounded by the mighty Himalayas. In Tibetan language, Nathu means “listening ears” and la means “pass”. It is located at an altitude of 14,140 feet above sea level which makes it one of the highest mountain passes in the world which is accessible to humans. The view is quite majestic as you would expect from a high mountain pass and the place is away from the hustle and bustle of the touristic places which makes it one of a kind experience.

Changu/Tsomgo Lake is a glacial lake in the East Sikkim district around 40kms from the capital Gangtok. It is one of the highest glacial lakes in the world with a height of almost 3,753 mts. This lake remains frozen for almost throughout the year. You can enjoy a Yak ride while here and there is also a Shiva Temple which is located here which is considered sacred by the locals. You can also try out a local cable car ride here which will offer you a panoramic view of the lake and surroundings from a vantage point.

Gangtok is the capital city of Sikkim, a beautiful city located amongst majestic mountain valleys and River Teesta flowing by it. Gangtok lies in the eastern Himalayan Range at an elevation of 5,410 fts. You can go for a stroll at M.G. Road which is a clean open air-mall where there are good hangout spots, places to shop and eat your heart out with many shops, cafes and restaurants located there.

Rumtek Monastery is known for its calm and serene atmosphere and also for the Buddha statue inside the monastery. Ban Jhakri waterfalls provide an escape from the city life of Gangtok to a waterfall which is located amidst the forests. Namgyal institute of Tibetology is a beautiful museum which is dedicated to Tibetan culture and Vajrayana Buddhism. There are many souvenirs and books which you can find in the monastery. Tashi View point provides a panoramic view of beautiful mountain vistas of Sikkim.

Pelling is a small town which is located in the westerns parts of Sikkim. Views of the Himalayan ranges and mighty Khangchendzonga are visible from here. Some of the places to visit in Pelling are Khangchendzonga waterfalls, which is quite mystic and serene. One of the famous waterfalls of Pelling is the Rimbi waterfall, which is located around 12kms from Pelling. This waterfall forms over the Rimbi river and you can go for various recreational activities like fishing and swimming.

Khecheopalri lake is a lake situated in the West Sikkim district, near Khecheopalri village. This lake is sacred for both Hindus and Buddhists, and is known to be a wish fulfilling lake. Localites call this lake as Sho Dzo Sho, which means “Oh Lady, Sit Here”. From an elevation, the lake appears to be in the shape of a foot and according to Hindu beliefs, Lord Shiva meditated here. Myth is that when a leaf falls on the placid clear water surface, it is picked by a bird and thus the water surface is always free of leaves.

Rabdentse was once the second capital of the former Kingdom of Sikkim from 1670 to 1814, but was destroyed by the invading Gurkha army and now just the ruins of the former city remain. From the vantage points of these ruins, you can catch a glimpse of the mighty Khangchendzonga mountains. The ruins of the palace are made up of two wings, northern and southern. Northern wing was used by the royal families as their residence.

Pemayangtse Monastery is a Buddhsit monastery, which has the tag of being one of the oldest and premier monasteries of Sikkim and also the most famous in West Sikkim. This monastery is built for pure monks i.e, monks of “Pure Tibetan Lineage”. This place is great for practicing meditation and offers a unique insight into the life of Buddhist monks.
